Fun Family Activities in Niseko for the Whole Gang to Enjoy

You’ve finally made it to Niseko for that dream family holiday. The snow is perfect, the resort is buzzing, and now you need to fill the days with fun for everyone. Don’t worry, Niseko has more activities than just skiing and snowboarding. This guide will give you the inside scoop on some of the best family-friendly activities in Niseko that will entertain kids of all ages (including your inner child). After reading this guide, the only question you’ll be asking yourself is, which activity will you try first?

1. Go snow rafting at Niseko Village

Snow rafting is a fun thrill that you simply must try if you visit Niseko this winter. You’ll zip across vast snowy terrain from the comfort of your very own rubber boat that’s pulled by a snowmobile driven by your personal guide. You’ll have your heart racing as they launch off bumps and zigzag through powdery slopes. Even when you’re not going that fast, it will still feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride. Whatever your age, this awesome snow sport will get your blood pumping and leave you craving more. But if you want to take it easy and truly appreciate the breathtaking natural scenery, just let your guide know, and they’ll drive the snowmobile very slowly.

2. Drive a snowmobile through a white forest

Alternatively, if you’d like to be on the driver’s seat instead of being dragged on a raft, then you can also go snowmobiling at Niseko Village. Drive through the snowy forests and feel like you’re in a completely different world. Nothing beats the thrill of speeding through the winter wonderland scenery with the cool wind on your face! When you’re finished, stop for some hot cocoa and snacks at the resort’s restaurant as you go through the many beautiful photos and videos you took during your ride.

3. Go snow tubing at Hanazono Adventure Park

For some hilarious family fun, go snow tubing at Hanazono’s Tubing Park. To reach the starting point, take the magical moving walkway known as the ‘magic carpet’. Climb onto a giant inflatable tube and whoosh down a groomed snow slide, spinning and bumping along the way. Little ones have their own special lane where they can have fun safely. Though the slope is gentle, speeds pick up nicely on the way down. Tubing is easy for all ages, no equipment or training needed. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride!

4. Go horseriding at Niseko Country Farm

An introductory horse riding experience with stunning views awaits families at the base of Mt Yotei. The 45-minute tour allows you to learn the basics of horseback riding and control while enjoying the beauty of Niseko’s winter wonderland. Families with children ages 6 and older can participate at¥10,000 per person. Professional and friendly instructors will help you and your kids mount the horses and provide step-by-step guidance throughout the tour. This is a great way for your young ones to learn how to interact with animals and experience the wonders of nature.

5. Build an igloo at Niseko Outdoor Center

Spend a morning learning igloo construction techniques on a beautiful snow-covered terrain with stunning views of Mount Yotei. Expert instructors will guide you through the process step-by-step, from packing the first blocks of snow to creating a cosy interior. No previous experience is necessary – just an open mind and a willingness to create something from scratch! Warm drinks and snacks are provided afterwards to refuel. Suitable for all ages and abilities, this is a truly unique experience your family will remember for years to come.

6. Learn how to make ice cream at Milk Kobo

Fancy learning how Milk Kobo, one of Niseko’s most iconic confectioners, creates their delicious ice creams? In this workshop, not only will you get to sample all their wonderful flavours of ice cream, but you’ll also get to whip up and taste your very own soft-serve or hand-crafted ice cream using only the finest Hokkaido ingredients. It’s perfect for foodies, families or anyone with a sweet tooth looking to spend a fun and educational afternoon in the kitchen. Spaces are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

7. Playtime at the Galaxy of Kidz Indoor Play Area

Spark your little ones’ imagination in Hanazono Resort’s Galaxy of Kidz indoor play space. Climb, jump and discover to their heart’s content in their soft play area with a ball pit and climbing walls. Designed with safety in mind, the indoor playground gives kids the freedom to learn through independent play in a stimulating environment. However, it’s required that a parent or guardian must watch over them during their play time, in case they have trouble removing or putting on harnesses.

8. Relax in an onsen with the whole family

After an active day, enjoy a relaxing soak in one of Niseko‘s natural hot spring onsens. The mineral-rich waters are perfect for soothing sore muscles and rejuvenating the body and spirit. Many onsens have outdoor baths with mountain views, perfect for stargazing with the family after dark. One of our favourites is Kanronomori because of its two outdoor baths with gorgeous views over the national park. For those who aren’t comfortable with baring it all, Kanronomori also offers two private onsen rooms.
